Opening Doors 2026 brings together youth-serving professionals, advocates, policymakers, funders, educators, and community leaders to explore what it takes to build a truly connected ecosystem of care. At a time when mental health supports, economic opportunity, and protections for vulnerable young people are increasingly fragmented, the need for collaboration has never been greater. Opening Doors 2026 will be grounded in three urgent themes facing young people every day:
Mental Health & Wellbeing
→ What does emotional safety look like at scale?
Economic Stability
→ What does financial safety and possibility look like for young people?
Supporting Immigrant Youth
→ Who gets to feel safe in NYC—and who doesn’t?
Over two days, participants will examine how the youth development field can work across sectors to create the conditions where every young person experiences safety, belonging, wellbeing, and opportunity. Day One will focus on emerging challenges, innovative ideas, and thought leadership shaping the future of the field. Day Two will turn toward action, highlighting practical strategies, partnerships, and approaches that organizations can implement in their communities.
Building on the success of last year's summit, Opening Doors 2026 will once again offer meaningful opportunities for professional learning and continuing education, while expanding opportunities for collective impact, cross-sector collaboration, and authentic youth voice. Throughout the summit, leaders and practitioners will learn alongside one another, share promising practices, and explore how stronger connections throughout the youth development community can expand what's possible for New York City's young people.
